1-2 Finish for Galati and Pobst in Mosport Speed GT Round 6

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada. (August 7, 2004) - It was a picture perfect 1-2 finish today for the dazzling duo from Audi Certified Champion RS 6 Racing during today's 50-minute race at Mosport International Raceway. Michael Galati drove a flawless flag to flag race around the sometimes dry and sometimes wet 2.459-mile circuit thus earning him the top spot on the podium. Teammate Randy Pobst shadowed Galati most of the time and brought his No. 1 Audi RS 6 across the finish line in second position.

Driving the No. 2 Certified Pre-owned Audi RS 6, Galati charged into the lead with Pobst directly behind him. It was cool and cloudy with a hint of rain in the air. While turning laps at an average of 104 mph, Galati's left rear door became unhinged and dangled in the wind. SCCA officials watched this carefully but ultimately determined the situation as "loose bodywork which did not pose a hazard" and allowed Galati to continue. Galati's win today makes him the first 2-time SPEED World Challenge GT winner this year.

Pobst's only competition came from a Corvette Z06 driven by Italian Lou Gigliotti. The two swapped positions several times and then towards the end of the race the rain came. Just enough to allow the quattro traction of the Audi RS 6's to grip the track and keep the Certified Audis in the lead.

Round Seven (second part of the double header race weekend) of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT race at Mosport International Raceway, is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, August 7, at 4:05 pm (EDT). Qualifying will occur the same day at 9:10 am. Today's race will be broadcast next Sunday, August 15 on SPEED Channel at 1 p.m. (EDT).

Michael Galati (Olmstead, OH). "The car was great in the beginning and then I started to pick up a vibration so bad that I couldn't turn right. I thought I was going to snap something. And then the sprinkles came and it gave me the cushion I needed. I worked very hard for this win, very hard. I really take my hat off to the Champion Racing guys who fixed the misfire on my Certified pre-owned Audi RS 6. It's just an amazing combination."

Randy Pobst (Gainesville, GA). "I don't think our Certified Audi RS 6s were the fastest in this race but the traction advantage we have from quattro gave us a great position on the start. And then the weather was finally in our favor today. Without those sprinkles, I don't think we would have won this race. And they came at just the right time. It really came down to having quattro that helped us win this race today."

Louis Milone (RS 6 Team Leader). "This race had a little bit of everything. Randy and Mike just did an incredible job of driving. What teamwork they showed today. The rain definitely helped. The cars were just set up perfectly. The team did a great job all week. It was those elements that helped bring home the win today. In my history of World Challenge GT racing, that's probably the hardest race for the top ten I've ever seen. It was anybody's race for the entire 30 laps. The fans should have loved it!"
