Pobst and Galati Qualify 3-4 at Portland

.

PORTLAND, OR. (July 24, 2004) - The Certified Champion Racing Audi RS 6s will start tomorrow's SPEED World Challenge GT race at Portland International Raceway from the second row. Grided side by side, Randy Pobst squeaked by his teammate Michael Galati by just 0.040 of a second.

Driving the No. 1 Audi Certified Pre-owned Audi RS 6, Pobst turned a fastest lap of 1:18.176 (89.521 mph) around the 1.944-mile circuit in the morning qualifying session. Pobst will be grided just behind the pole sitter's Viper Competition Coupe driven by Tommy Archer.

Michael Galati piloting the No. 2 Audi Certified Pre-owned Audi RS 6 will be grided on the outside of row two in 4th position. His lap time of 1:18.216 was just a smidgen behind that of Pobst.

The temperatures the last two days have been over 100 degrees with track temperatures around 150 degrees. Both the team and drivers hope for cooler temperatures for tomorrow's 50-minute race.

The SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT race at Portland International Raceway, Round Five of the 2004 Championship, is scheduled for Sunday, July 25, at 10:55 a.m. (PDT). The race will be broadcast the same day via tape-delay on SPEED Channel at 1 p.m. (EDT).

Michael Galati (Olmstead, OH). "Today's qualifying session went pretty well. We've been struggling all week chasing the misfire problem with my car so I was pretty happy with my time considering I haven't been able to turn many laps this weekend. The times are all very close for everyone so I'm pretty happy with 4th."

Randy Pobst (Gainesville, GA). "I think the Certified Audis are in an excellent position to win here at Portland. We weren't the fastest in qualifying but with our quattro, we're going to lead early on. My car is handling very well and I believe Portland is better suited to the RS 6s versus last weekend at Infineon Raceway. We're at a disadvantage on the straights here (Portland) so the challenge will be to beat the competitors to the end of the straight-aways, fight them off in the corners and then launch out with our quattro trying to hold them off until we get to the next corner. It's really going to be an excellent show tomorrow."

Louis Milone (RS 6 Team Leader). "We didn't really know what to expect coming into this track with the new restrictions so 3rd and 4th is very good. Having Michael and Randy lined up side by side in the second row on the grid will be good for us because our Audi quattro RS 6s make such a good start. I think we have a good shot at going 1st and 2nd on the start. The times are really close so it definitely is going to be a close race."
