JJ Lehto set a
time of 1min 24.562secs, an average speed of 107.708mph, around the
2.53-mile, 12-turn Infineon Raceway [Sears Point] in Sonoma, CA. The
Florida-based team is bidding to score a second consecutive victory
after achieving a maiden ALMS win in the previous race at Road Atlanta
last month.
Johnny
Herbert:
“I wasn’t
expecting Sears to be a breeze despite winning the last race and that
has been the case so far. We endured a frustrating time in qualifying
but I’m certain come the race, with a few overnight
changes to the car, we’ll be on the pace and can add to the Champion
team’s first and second place finishes in the opening two ALMS races.
This is the venue of my ALMS debut and I’ve finished fourth [2001] and
second [last year] here.”
JJ Lehto:
“I was
naturally disappointed to be only fourth quickest in qualifying but
although the race is going to be extremely tough, I believe we can
achieve another top result. I slightly bettered my time in the closing
stages of qualifying but unfortunately it did not gain us a better
position. I scored an LMP900 victory here in 1999 and I’ll be pushing
hard for another – we must consistently score big points for the
championship.” |
