ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 21, 2004) -
The Audi
Certified Champion RS 6 team demonstrated classic "textbook" racing
today with their 1-2 podium finish on the 4.048-mile road course of
Road America. Randy Pobst and Michael Galati were 1-2 on the grid
and with only a slight switch of position at the start of the race
(Galati passed Pobst) the duo was able to keep their leading
positions from flag to flag.
Driving the No. 2 Certified pre-owned Audi RS
6, Galati passed Pobst going into Turn 1. Pobst ducked in behind
Galati and together they cruised the famous hills and curves that
wind through the Kettle Moraine Forest.
Pobst
started to close the gap towards the end but it just wasn't enough
to overtake his teammate while also fending off Phil McClure in his
Corvette Z06.
There are a several weeks until the SPEED
World Challenge GT series competes at Road Atlanta as part of the
Petit Le Mans Weekend. Petit Le Mans is scheduled for September
23-25 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.
Michael Galati (Olmstead, OH). "I want to
thank my teammate for giving me room going into Turn 1. After that I
just put my head down and drove the wheels off. I tried to open a
gap early because I was worried about the tires. I particularly want
to thank Alcon and Ohlins for fantastic brakes and shock absorbers.
They did a great job after Mosport. The Champion Racing guys, they
just never die. They just never give up. They are the best!"
Randy
Pobst (Gainesville, GA). "Champion Racing pulled a rabbit out of a
hat today. They worked some magic on my RS 6 this weekend. It was
just ultra competitive today. As Audi says, 'Never Follow'. That is
unless you are following another Audi."
Louis Milone (Team Leader). "This 1-2
victory comes down to the team's performance as well as the driver's
performance. The Champion guys worked tirelessly around the clock
since Mosport, to continually develop these cars. As a team we are
committed to winning the Manufacturer's Championship. Once again our
hard work, team effort and commitment paid off."

(Qualifying)
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 21, 2004) -
Randy
Pobst of Gainesville, Georgia, earned his second pole position this
year during the qualifying session for today's SPEED World Challenge
GT Championship Round Eight race at Road America. Pobst's teammate,
Michael Galati of Olmstead, Ohio, qualified a close second providing
the Audi Certified Champion RS 6 team their third 1-2 start this
season.
Driving the No. 1 Certified Audi RS 6,
Pobst turned his fastest lap of 2:14.551 (108.306 mph) in the first
5 minutes of qualifying. Several on track incidents early on
shortened the usual 20-minute session to a mere 13-minutes.
Fortunately Galati in his No. 2 Certified Audi RS 6 was right behind
Pobst thus also allowing Galati to get his fast lap 2:14.551
(108.110) early on.
"This is a track that I have raced at for a
long time," Galati said attributing his fast qualifying time to
track familiarity. "I know this track like the back of my hand. It
is one of my favorite tracks." Galati has three wins and three poles
in five Road America appearances.
Round Eight of the SCCA SPEED World
Challenge GT race takes the green flag today, Saturday, August 21,
at 4:10 p.m. (CDT). The race will be broadcast next Sunday, August
29, on SPEED Channel at 1 p.m. (EDT).
Michael Galati (Olmstead, OH). "Qualifying
was fantastic because my Certified Audi was so awesome! This crew
just keeps improving these RS 6s every race. It was a great run for
Audi today."
Randy Pobst (Gainesville, GA). "I'm
ecstatic about getting this pole position. After Mosport my crew
chief, James Boody, and the rest of the crew worked some magic to
get my car back to running at 110%. The speed of this Audi RS 6
right now is more than what I expected."
Louis Milone (RS 6 Team Leader). "All of
our hard work from Mosport definitely paid off for us today. The
guys have worked several nights all through the night to put Randy's
car back together and now we have the results to show for it. The
session was definitely in our favor today with the red flag
incidents. Most of the other cars had their fast laps aborted
whereas we didn't. Being up front and out first is what gave us the
1-2 today."
