MONTEREY, Calif. - Speedvision World Challenge GT
Championship
leader Michael Galati saw his title points lead shrink at Laguna Seca
after
another of his patented storming starts.
Galati qualified fourth for Sunday's race, but by the time the field
arrived
at Turn One, Galati was in the lead after an excellent start. Galati held
off
RealTime Racing's Peter Cunningham's Acura NSX for three laps before
Cunningham
made the pass for the lead.
Galati's No. 9 Champion Audi S4 Competition fell victim to Johannes van
Overbeek's
No. 81 Porsche GT3 Cup in turn 11. Three laps later, he spun in turn nine,
falling
back to 11th, and then 12th a lap later. He would finish 10th (his worst
previous
finish being fourth). Team mate Derek Bell finished 15th after starting
11th.
Going into the doubleheader finale the weekend of October 5-7, Michael
Galati
retains his GT points lead with 222 over rival Cunningham's 208, with van
Overbeek
in third with 187. A possible 34 points can be won during each Speedvision
GT
race weekend.
