Texas Motor Speedway, Sunday, 4 March
Michael Galati took Champion Racing's #9
Audi S4 Competition
to Victory Lane in the opening round of the Speedvision World Challenge
GT series
at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, clinching the team's second overall
victory
with the turbocharged Quattro. Team-mate Derek Bell brought the #8 Audi
S4 home
in 13 place.
It was an eventful race, Galati starting from third spot on the grid,
and taking
an early lead. A nearly race-long duel with Boris Said's Mustang ended
when
Said's car lost a wheel, allowing the hotly-pursuing Galati move into
the lead
which he maintained until a late-race full-course caution, causing the
race
to end under caution, securing Galati's win. Galati led pole-sitter
Peter Cunningham
(RealTime Acura) and Randy Pobst (Toad Hall Racing Porsche) to the
checkers
after 28 laps around the 2.3-mile combined oval/roadcourse.
Next up for the Speedvision World Challenge GT series in Sebring
International
Raceway in just two weeks, which is a "home race" for the Pompano
Beach, Florida-based Champion Racing team. That event is part of the 12
Hours
of Sebring weekend. The Texas race will be broadcast on Speedvision at
9:00
pm (EST) on Friday, March 23.
