LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 29, 2002) -- Michael Galati, of N.
Olmstead,
Ohio, captured his third SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Woody's
Ice
Pole Position in four races this season, and will lead the field to turn
one
in tomorrow's race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Johannes van Overbeek,
of
Danville, Calif., and Randy Pobst completed the top three.
Driving the No. 1 Champion Audi S4 Competition, Galati turned a lap of
1:34.373
(86.134 mph) around the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio circuit for his 18th career
pole
position. Galati's turned the lap on his first tour around the track. "The
difference
today was that you had to push hard the first lap when the tires were
still
cold," said Galati. "I just put my head down and went for it."
The three Champion Racing Audi's qualified in car number order, with No.2
Derek
Bell qualifying sixth, and Rookie Joel Nelson qualifying twelfth.
Round Four of the SPEED GT Championship takes the green light on its
standing
start at 8:55 a.m. (EDT) Sunday morning. |
