Monday, April 24th (Pompano Beach, FL) Team Champion gathered all team members including fly-in personnel for two days of Spring Training. This “dress rehearsal” was done at our local testing facility, Moroso Motorsports Park.
Team Champion took this opportunity to setup all the canopies, pit equipment, fuel rigs, telemetry and radios ultimately gave the team the necessary conditions to test themselves and the equipment after a long off season.
Last year’s Championship Audi R8 was used for the on track activity, which allowed Team Champion to run in new gearboxes and suspension systems in preparation for the upcoming races. The team also ran a series of live track simulations. The test driver called in various track and car conditions during a lap, such as damaged tail, damaged nose and nose box or tire puncture. The pit crew had to react to “surprise scenarios” and get the car back on the circuit.
According to Jerome Freeman, fueler on car #1, “On the surface, a test like this may seem insignificant, but once you are out there on the track you realize the many small things that can affect your performance.”
At the end of the training we had completed over 40 full speed pit stops, each one sharpening the rhythm and communications of the team as a whole. Back at the Race facility, we will build a complete working pit and continue to perfect our skills. Our goal as always is to be the best both on the track and in the pit lane.
Team Champion is ready and eager for the next race, the Grand Prix of Houston which will take place on May 12th at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas
